GS1 standards underpin the NZBN, giving every business a single, trusted digital identity that agencies and trading partners can rely on.
GS1 standards are supporting public policy outcomes.
GS1 standards create a common language for identifying, capturing and sharing product, location and organisation information across systems and supply chains.
This improves data accuracy, enhances interoperability between trading partners, and enables seamless information exchange across systems. GS1 New Zealand is a not-for-profit organisation working with government, industry associations and business to promote standards adoption, support policy development, and ease market access.

As a society New Zealand needs shared digital foundations that enable government, industry and communities to deliver and access connected and trusted services. The opportunity is to build digital infrastructure that works for people, agencies and sectors supporting public safety, government efficiency and connecting New Zealanders to the world. This is made possible by open, interoperable standards that allow different people and systems to share and trust the same information.
GS1 New Zealand is actively working with government and industry on these priority policy areas.
Digital labelling, such as the QR code powered by GS1, complements physical labels. We are sharing with policy makers that globally accepted standards must be applied, and education and awareness are required.
