Identify locations with GLNs
Uniquely identify your business locations for improved supply chain visibility and accurate trading partner communications.
Why use GLNs?
Global Location Numbers (GLNs) provide a standardised way to identify locations across the supply chain. They're required for electronic data interchange (EDI) transactions and improve visibility of product movements.
When everyone uses GLNs, it eliminates confusion about which location is being referenced in orders, shipments, and invoices.
What is a GLN?
A Global Location Number (GLN) is a unique number used to identify physical, mobile, and digital locations, legal entities, or functions within your organisation.
Just as GTINs identify your products, GLNs identify where those products are made, stored, and sold. They're essential for accurate supply chain communication.

What can be identified with a GLN?
GLNs can identify any type of location or legal entity in your supply chain.
Head Office
Your main business address for legal and administrative purposes.
Warehouses
Distribution centres and storage facilities in your supply chain.
Manufacturing Sites
Factories and production facilities where goods are made.
Retail Outlets
Stores and shops where products are sold to consumers.
You probably already have one
As a New Zealand business, you already have a GLN – it's your New Zealand Business Number (NZBN). GLNs let you extend beyond your NZBN to identify branches, departments, and specific locations within your organisation.

A key use of GLNs is in electronic data interchange (EDI), where standardised, structured information is automatically shared between organisations. This includes eInvoicing, along with purchase orders, advance shipping notices, bills of lading, and payment remittance advices.
GLNs are globally unique, enabling legal entity and physical location information to be accurately shared between trading partners worldwide.
